Potsdam Institute for Research of Climatic Effects

The Potsdam Institute for Research of Climatic Effects (PIK) investigates climatic change in its entire complexity. What are the causes of climatic change and to what degree do humans influence climate? What ecological, economic, and social consequences will result from the changes to the global environment? How will regions, markets, and branches of economic activity be affected? How can negative effects be avoided and the consequences be moderated?

The PIK, together with partner institutions and in interdisciplinary projects, develops practical methods for finding answers to these questions. The PIK, with some 150 employees, is part of the Leibniz association and is funded in equal measure by the German Federal government and the State of Brandenburg.
