The Biosphaere in northern Potsdam presents a unique opportunity to experience the world of nature. You will go on a discovery tour by land, water, and air among 20,000 tropical plants and trees. Prince Fürst Pückler, will keep you company with a running narrative as you visit the Biosphaere past the mangrove swamp, and through a palm grove. In the Prince's fantastic research station you can witness some detailed secrets of the sea, or you can take a bird's eye view to observe the tropic flora of the Biosphaere - looking down from above onto the treetops below you.
The Biosphaere is located on the grounds of the Volkspark, a fascinating new park facility between Sanssouci park and the Neuen Garten. The park was prepared for the National Horticulture Show 2001 (BUGA) on land that was a former military grounds and displays a colourful variety of changing scenery, including plants and attractive architecture. Sports fans and children alike can find an ideal fit from a range of skating courses, baths, pools and sand-pit playgrounds, basketball courts and football fields, a 4-kilometer-long path winding around the park, and much more. Beginning at the end of April, the park offers a variety of programs, including music, fireworks, and cultural highlights - all taking place on the weekends.
Other BUGA locations, such as the Freundschaftsinsel (Friendship Island) and the New Pleasance in the historic city center, invite you to take a stroll around at your ease.
