Neuer Lustgarten - New Pleasance

Once the Pleasance was part of the Potsdam Stadtschloss city palace and was the oldest garden in Potsdam. After WWII, a sports stadium was built here. For the occasion of the National Garden Show 2001, the New Pleasance - located between the banks of the Havel river and the film museum - was re-designed. The sculpture group Ringerkolonnade - the Wrestler's colonnade - and the Neptune basin were restored, and the city square and garden facilities were built in a modern style. The generously-allotted area affords many different types of recreational activities: sports, games, or just relaxation. The large ceremonial square is the location for many major events. Folk festivals, annual markets, and trade fairs are frequently held here.
