The German Weather Watch

Some 3,000 employees in more than 130 locations - from Kap Arkona (Cape Arkona) to Freiburg, from List on the island of Sylt to the Zugspitze - are working to ensure the broad range of services and the blanket area coverage of the German Weather Watch (DWD). From the five-day forecast to the detailed climate survey, you can receive the weather reports and climate data first-hand from the Weather Watch's six large regional offices in Hamburg, Potsdam, Essen, Leipzig, Stuttgart, and Munich, as well as from the DWD main office in Offenbach. On top of this, there are more than 20 additional branch offices or air-borne weather stations, and another 200 weather stations which observe the weather around the clock.

The Potsdam branch office is responsible for the Federal States of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and Berlin, and thus for the Federal capital. The scope of work of the German Weather Watch extends well beyond the weather forecast. The DWD considers itself a scientific and technical service provider for safeguarding air traffic and ship navigation. Over and above this, the DWD plays an important role in monitoring the atmosphere for radioactivity.
