Frederick I

(1657-1713, Elector from 1688 as Frederick III, 1701-1713 King in Prussia as Frederick I)

An elector and king who lived and reigned mainly in Berlin. Potsdam is indebted to him for the honour of being a royal residence as well as for the Fortuna Gate, which was erected on the occasion of his coronation in 1701 as the new northern entrance to the City Palace.
