The Academy of Film and Television ‘Konrad Wolf’ was founded in 1954 and is the only college of arts in Brandenburg and also the oldest and biggest of five media colleges in Germany. Sixty years later it became the first film university in Germany.
The main purpose of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF is to train junior employees in ten courses of study covering almost the entire spectrum of careers.
In addition, the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF tries to engage the public with diverse cultural activities. At different times you can visit public lectures, films showings followed by discussion, exhibits, plays, open houses, film Sundays and once a year every spring the famous International Student Film Festival sehsüchte. The glass-concrete-and-steel palace of the Film University in the Media City Babelsberg is also very popular as a site for outside events.
Students and alumni of the Film University have won multiple prestigious film awards in recent years, such as the Student Academy Awards (Student Oscars), the German Short Film Award, the First Steps Awards, and the German Television Award.
