"Potsdam is a city of diversity, equal opportunities, and tolerance for all people, regardless of their way of life, age, gender, disability, origin, culture, faith, sexual orientation, or income." (Chapter 1, Sentence 5, Mission Statement of the State Capital Potsdam 2016)

The state capital Potsdam sees itself as a city for everyone, with the local society being tolerant and open-minded. The urban mission statement of 2016 is the result of a process that began with the articulation of the slogan Bündnis „Potsdam! bekennt Farbe“ in 2000.

Over the years, Bündnis „Potsdam! bekennt Farbe“ has developed into a guiding motto. Under this slogan, diverse activities from various civic organizations unite for an open-minded and tolerant society, with democracy, equal opportunity, and solidarity at its core. They clearly position themselves against right-wing extremism, right-wing populism, and inhumane attitudes and behaviors.
