Templin Lake (© Landeshauptstadt Potsdam)
Most of the lakeshore is shaped by Potsdam’s city center and the districts of Brandenburger Vorstadt, Teltower Vorstadt, and Templiner Vorstadt. In this area are the Vorderkappe and Hinterkappe on the Hermannswerder peninsula, the Neustädter Havel Bay, and numerous boat docks. The parts of the lakeshore outside the urban area are bordered by forest. On this southern shore, just beyond the railway embankment, lies the Strandbad Templin, a popular public bathing area known for its good water quality.
Nearby is the Forsthaus Templin (Templin Forest Lodge). Large portions of the shoreline of Templiner See remain relatively natural, featuring reed beds (Röhricht) and intact riparian vegetation.
