The New Palace in Potsdam is the most impressive and largest structure within the Sanssouci Palace complex. It was built between 1763 and 1769 at the western end of the main avenue in Sanssouci Park, based on designs by Johann Gottfried Büring, Heinrich Ludwig Manger, and Carl von Gontard, at the request of Frederick II.

The grand palace, with its towering tambour dome, primarily served Frederick II for representation and as a guest palace. He himself hardly ever lived there. Of the 200 palace rooms, about 60 can be visited, including the Grotto Hall, the Marble Gallery, and the guest apartments. The south wing of the New Palace houses the palace theater, which is still used as a performance venue today.
